Residents will be monitoring the river level directly or using the river level charts online. Today's update from the EA is to confirm that river water levels look like they have now peaked, and will hopefully recede in the coming days.
Dr Ben Spencer MP said: "It is vital that everyone continues to take care and stay safe. River levels are still very high, properties remain affected and there is a huge amount of water remaining on roads, paths, and green spaces.
"I met with Community Information Officers from the Environment Agency today who are monitoring the river locally and encouraging everyone to keep checking EA updates which are posted twice daily https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/alerts-and... and sign up to flood alert, if you haven't already, to get the latest information as quickly as possible.
Dr Ben and his team have been providing direct support to residents to help address concerns over a range of issues including access to properties and flooded roads, support for vulnerable residents, sewerage and utilities, and stranded animals. He has also visited some of the worst-affected sites including Chertsey Lane, Thorpe, Penton Park, Laleham Reach, and Hamm Court Weybridge, and spoken to residents.
He added: "I want to recognise those residents who are doing so much to support and care for others in their community: I have spoken to our flood group coordinators, people wading through knee-high water to meet food delivery vans for their housebound neighbours, a flood warden checking on vulnerable residents, a truck driver stopping to offer a tow to a vehicle stranded in high water, and one exceptional resident who was using her canoe to help residents in Weybridge to leave their homes, and many others helping out. Thank you to everyone who is helping support our communities and keeping people safe."
This week Dr Ben attended a meeting of the River Thames Scheme Project Board which discussed the progress on the scheme and the launch of the statutory consultation later this month which is an important milestone getting it built. There are a range of flooding issues which need to be looked into further once we are on the other side of these latest floods. The immediate next stage will be to begin the clean up and repairs necessary. If you are aware of any specific impact the flooding has caused please do report it. You can email [email protected] if you need help from our MP.
Residents are advised to avoid entering flood water and take care when in areas still affecting by flooding. As little as 25cm of flowing water can move a car, and the wash created by cars travelling through flood water can increase damage to local property. There may also be obstacles hidden beneath the water that could cause damage or injury.
