Chertsey councillors Mark Nuti and Jaz Mavi are setting up a Chertsey-wide Neighbourhood Watch initiative where residents will be able to pass on warnings about crime, litter, and antisocial behaviour.
Mark, who represents St Ann’s ward at Runnymede Borough Council, explains: "It’s about owning our town again. Our idea is to get everyone in Chertsey reporting incidents on a website or social media, so that the community knows what’s going on and the criminals get the message that they will get no luck here.”
Mark got the idea after a spate of vandalism against cars in Alwyns Lane. And he has enlisted the support of Jaz Mavi, who was elected a councillor for Chertsey Riverside in May.
Jaz says: “I am enjoying meeting residents as a new councillor hearing their views on local issues. I love that Chertsey is a beautiful historic market town and it is upsetting to see all the empty shops we have. This is also something we want to address."
