It is great news that a planning application has at last been submitted for the rebuild of Weybridge Health Centre. It will be decided by Elmbridge Borough Council in March.
Runnymede & Weybridge MP Dr Ben Spencer says the re-provision of the hospital, which was destroyed by fire in 2017, is the “single biggest issue” in his postbag from Weybridge residents, adding: “We need to get it rebuilt as quickly as possible.”
Ben comments: “Supporting progress towards the rebuild of the Weybridge health centre has been a priority for me since I was first elected in 2019. Following years of engagement with the project partners, residents, and Ministers, including holding a debate in Parliament and pressing for funding to be agreed, I was delighted to see the planning application for the site formally submitted before Christmas.
“I have submitted a response to the consultation and my priority is to ensure same day access to health services, designed and delivered with clear and consistent resident engagement.
“Hopefully planning permission will be granted on 18th March. Afterwards I will write to NHS Property Services to request confirmation of final project funding. I truly hope next time I am writing to you it will be with news of when building work is due to begin!”
The application in front of Elmbridge councillors is for the removal of temporary buildings and the redevelopment of the 0.85ha site to provide a two-storey health centre building with solar panels and landscaping, with 87 parking spaces.
