Surrey’s Climate Change Strategy
Surrey County Council has recently published a Climate Change Strategy which sets out the County’s ambition to achieve a goal of net zero by 2050.
We are already facing the impacts of climate change on a daily basis. The County, through it’s Strategy, seeks to build on existing measures to strengthen resilience at community, even individual level, through climate proofing our services and infrastructure across Surrey.
At the heart of the Strategy is to invest in the decarbonisation of homes. In fact, our homes, largely due to poor insulation, accounts to over 25% of all carbo emissions across Surrey. The Strategy provides for support for homeowners to go green through the installation of more solar panels and the replacing of old boilers in homes. The County wants to achieve 15% of energy from solar PV by 2032.
The Strategy also aims to reduce carbon emissions by 60% in the transport sector by 2035 through the delivery and promotion of integrated, accessible and affordable public transport, including more buses and more walking and cycling lanes across Surrey.
The Strategy provides for the planting of 1.2 million trees by 2032, 70% of waste in the County collected, reused, composted or recycled by 2030 and 61% emissions reduction across commercial and public sector buildings, including Surrey County buildings, by 2035.
It is a bold and ambitious Strategy: a plan where we can all play our part.

A Timsway Makeover
I am delighted that the residents of Timsway, Thorpe have now benefitted from a pavement resurfacing makeover, courtesy of the Surrey Highways Team. The road itself, is also scheduled to be resurfaced in November, which should greatly improve the character of the road and surrounding area.
I would like to acknowledge the persistent efforts of local residents and also the Surrey Highways Team, for their collective efforts to get this done. A great team effort.

The Ottershaw Roundabout
Following extensive discussions involving senior Surrey officials, borough councillors, local residents, your County councillors and Dr Ben Spencer MP, a new roundabout design has been published, ahead of public consultation, expected in late October/early November 2021.
I hosted an online public meeting on 13 October to discuss the latest design. The meeting was well attended by local residents and much ground was covered on the night. My thanks to all residents who attended.
I then attended a meeting in the Ottershaw village on Saturday, 16 October, hosted by the Ottershaw Society, to further discuss the latest design, which was also well received by local residents.
