We are delighted to report two fantastic results for the Conservatives in the Runnymede and Elmbridge local by-elections on Thursday night.
In Addlestone South (Runnymede) our candidate Steve Eldridge triumphed with 59.9% of the votes and was elected to finish the term of the late Conservative councillor Jonathan Wilson.
Steve lives in the ward and is a great community champion. His team worked their socks off, delivering and door knocking over several weeks.
The results were: Steve Eldridge - elected with 520 votes. Labour second on 262, Lib Dems third with 85, and the Green Party fourth with 63 votes.
The night brought a further success as RWCA's Chairman Colin McFarlane edged out the Independents in Weybridge St Georges Hill ward (Elmbridge) to win by 10 votes - nail bitingly close!
Colin polled 608 votes versus 598 for the Independents and 116 for the Greens.
It was a well-deserved win (at the third attempt) for Colin and his local team who also worked fantastically hard and kept plugging away to retain the seat which had been won so impressively in 2022 by our late colleague Cllr Charu Sood.
Both results are fitting tributes to Jonathan and Charu and we are delighted to be able keep their seats in Conservative hands and to continue their legacies.
And with Conservatives picking up another Elmbridge seat (Hersham) on the same night it feels like the Party may be turning a corner after some difficult years.
