Colin McFarlane, the Chairman of Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Association, is our candidate in the St George's Hill by election to Elmbridge Borough Council.
Residents of the ward will be going to the polls on Thursday 10th October to elect a successor to Cllr Charu Sood, our Conservative colleague who sadly passed away in August, after representing the ward with distinction since 2018.
Colin has set out four priorities for a better Weybridge St George’s Hill. They are:
1) Rebuild our Weybridge Hospital - seven years on from the devastating fire, local people and staff are still making do with temporary buildings. Colin will work with Dr Ben Spencer MP to move the rebuild forward.
2) Protect from harmful development - Labour is set to impose huge housing targets on our Borough, and we will need a councillor to stand up for our green spaces and insist that any new development is in keeping with the character of the area.
3) Renew Weybridge town centre - Colin is fighting for fairer parking fees to support shoppers and backing the regeneration of the high street with new Weybridge Hub, and transformation of Weybridge Hall into a theatre.
4) Action for our local roads - Conservatives signed-off a ban on HGVs in the town centre, resurfaced Hangar Hill and Brooklands Road, installed the zebra crossing outside Manby Lodge School and are rolling out 20mph to more residential streets. Colin will work with County Councillor Tim Oliver to keep making progress.
Colin said: "Having lived in St George’s Hill for 25 years, I’ve seen its growth and challenges first-hand. My career was in IT and project management, working for international corporations, and since retiring I have volunteered as an ambulance first responder, helping some vulnerable people in their time of need. I am keen to give back to the community locally by serving Weybridge residents as their representative on the Council."
Please get in touch if you can help Colin to retain the St George's Hill seat and continue Charu Sood's legacy of championing local residents.
